Norman Mullet purchased a 10 acre tract of farmland near Bremen, Marshall County, IN in January 0f 2005. Everything on the farm was built with the help of family and friends. Norman knew from the beginning that he did not want to use toxins or chemicals, so they grew hay for the first 3 years. This is the time frame to prepare farmland/soil for organic status.
In 2008 three greenhouse structures were constructed on the farm. Norman spoke with a firm that was searching for local organic vegetables. His lack of experience in growing vegetables caused quite a difficult journey for his family from 2008 through 2012. His choice to become involved in farmers markets was due to the need for higher income from their limited farm size.
Norman chooses to avoid ALL potentially harmful substances and methods of operation. He continues studying and researching these methods. After ten years, he realizes significant benefits which include: 1) the soil doesn’t freeze as easily, 2) the vegetables taste great, 3) insect life on the farm is more balanced, and 4) plants do not suffer as much in adverse weather.
Norman’s goal is to provide non-toxic, nutritious, fresh, organic food and plants for their customers. He also enjoys being at home with his family while providing for them financially. Some of the products that are sold by Norman Mullet Farm include: asparagus, beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, eggplant, lettuce, garlic, melons, onions, potatoes, 3 varieties of squash, tomatoes and watermelon. The also sell organic-fed chickens and their eggs.
Norman Mullet Farm has been with the Carmel Farmers Market for many years.
